🌞 Moms Rock
A Q&A with a mom we admire and how to celebrate the mamas in your life
Moms rock. It’s plain and simple. Along this journey on The Sunny Sheet, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing some INCREDIBLE mothers who are not only rocks for their families, but also amazing members of the community here in Brentwood.
Today’s edition features a Q&A with Leigh Fleet, a mom and co-founder of Threads 4 Thought; an incredible giveaway for moms featuring an array of Brentwood businesses; and a few last-minute Sunny Sheet-esque ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in the neighborhood.
Let’s get into it.
Brentwood Voices
Meet Leigh Fleet, founder of Threads 4 Thought. I love how we first met — I was having coffee at Parakeet when I bumped into Melody Godfred (another fabulous woman I’ve met because of The Sunny Sheet), and she introduced us. It was one of those moments that made me feel like I really do live in a neighborhood.
Her vision began in 2006 with soft, sustainable tees and has since evolved into a brand of apparel you can wear anywhere, anytime. At the heart of the mission is a commitment to quality, ethical manufacturing, and sustainable materials.
I sat down with Leigh to talk about her thoughtful brand and where she likes to spend time on the Westside as a former East Coaster.
TSS: You moved from New York to Los Angeles in 2018. Has that coastal shift influenced the vibe of your designs?
LF: Absolutely. I’ve always been near water — the Hudson River in New York — but being on the actual coast hits differently. There’s an ease and lightness here that naturally found its way into the brand, pushing our basics in a more effortless, California-casual direction… pieces that feel relaxed, lived-in, and easy to wear day to day.
It also felt like a seamless transition because our main designer, Britt, has been with Threads 4 Thought since 2007 and is a California girl. Hawaii is also one of the team’s favorite places, so that relaxed, sun-washed sensibility has always been part of our DNA.
TSS: What’s your favorite piece (or set) right now — and where are you wearing it?
LF: I’ve been living in my favorite capsule all spring — it’s perfect for layering and mixing and matching. It’s four pieces in our mineral-washed TriBlend fleece, which is hands down our most comfortable fabric, and the wash gives it a more elevated feel.
There’s a button-down made from sweatshirt material that I pair with slightly cropped, barrel-leg pants, and a pullover that works perfectly with the best-fitting shorts. I always layer the Mirabel tank underneath both looks — it’s truly the best layering piece.
Every time I wear it, I get compliments. It’s one of those sets you can throw on and instantly feel put together… easy, effortless, and perfect for the rhythm of everyday life.
You can shop the pieces in four beautiful colors: the Blaire Button Down, Chantel Pant, Kaitylin Sweatshirt, Chantel Short, and the Mirabel Tank.
TSS: What does a perfect Brentwood (or Westside) morning look like for you?
LF: Not to sound cliché, but I really do feel like my everyday is the perfect day.
It starts with school drop-off at Sycamore Community School for my two boys — it’s such an incredible community. Then I head to Platefit in Brentwood for a workout with Matt Day, followed by lingering a little too long at Parakeet Cafe for coffee with a mom friend.
From there, it’s a mix of working from home or the office until school pick-up, and then it’s straight back into mom mode — surf, piano, golf, basketball, t-ball… all the things. And somewhere in between, figuring out dinner… which is where my go-to neighborhood spots truly save me.
Once a week, it’s either book club with girlfriends or a date night with my co-founder husband. Being on the Westside, surrounded by an amazing mom community and a supportive school, means everything.
🌞 Leigh’s “Sunny Spots”
(We ask our local business owners for their Brentwood favorites.)
Platefit is my go-to for workouts — it’s the one that’s truly stuck after trying everything on the Westside. The energy is high, the workouts are efficient, and you walk out feeling stronger, grounded, and taken care of.
R+D Kitchen is a classic for Friday mom lunches… if you know, you know.
Thyme Café is my forever favorite — whether it’s a delicious iced cappuccino with the green scramble if I’m sitting in, an iced americano on the go, or grabbing something from their prepared foods for an easy dinner. Honestly, that section has saved me so many times as a mom — it makes weeknights feel just a little bit easier. Their gift section is also so good — always dangerous in the best way.
When I need a reset in nature, I’ve been spending more time at the Ballona Wetlands. You’ve probably driven by it on the way to LAX, but it’s such a beautiful coastal reserve. I highly recommend following Friends of Ballona Wetlands and finding a way to experience it — it’s really special.

💐 Last-Minute Mother’s Day Ideas
Whether you’re a planner or not, I’ve compiled a few fun ideas to make the mama in your life feel special.
Grab flowers from Flowers with Love, that cute little flower stand between Sugarfish and SoulCycle.
Take a stroll around the Brentwood Country Club (a perfect 3-mile loop) and end with brunch at Amici Brentwood.
For the foodie mom, snag some incredible cooking and pantry essentials at El Merkat by Telefèric or Farmshop. A fine olive oil, fresh pasta, olives, cheese, or tinned fish in cute packaging goes a long way.
Make her breakfast in bed. Get your tush to the Brentwood Farmer’s Market nice and early, and pick out fresh eggs and veggies for a frittata, flowers for her vase, and sourdough from Häsi Bread’s stand.
Get out in nature and keep it casual. Take mom on a hike up the Westridge Trail in Mandeville Canyon, followed by lunch at Parakeet.
🌞 Until Next Time!
